What programs does Lakayro offer?

Lakayro offers youth dance education, adult dance classes, cultural dance workshops, school partnerships, mentorship, and community-based arts programming. Our programs center Haitian and Afro-Diasporic dance while incorporating broader dance education and performing arts training.

What age groups can participate?

Lakayro serves both youth and adults. Age requirements vary by program. The Youth Dance Company currently serves young dancers, while adult classes and community programs are available for adults of different experience levels.

Do I need prior dance experience?

No. Experience requirements vary by program, but Lakayro offers beginner-friendly opportunities and structured instruction for dancers at different levels.

Do I need to be Haitian or part of the diaspora?

No. Haitian culture is central to Lakayro’s work, but our programs welcome people of all backgrounds who are interested in learning about Haitian and Afro-Diasporic dance and culture.

How do I register?

What should I expect during a typical class?

Lakayro classes combine technical dance training, cultural education, movement exploration, practice, choreography, and reflection. Our teaching approach is student-centered and encourages dancers to develop independence, creativity, confidence, and accountability.

Can Lakayro perform at or lead a workshop for my event?
