Why Cultural Dance Matters

Cultural dance preserves history, identity, and community — passing traditions forward with intention.

Cultural dance is more than movement — it is a living record of a people. When we teach Haitian and Afro-Diasporic dance with intention, we preserve history, language, and identity for the next generation.

For young people, especially those from the diaspora, cultural dance is a bridge to belonging. It connects them to roots they may not have had the chance to fully know, and it gives them a way to carry that culture forward with pride.

At LakayRo, we believe cultural preservation is an act of respect. We do not dilute tradition — we honor it, teach its context, and help students understand the stories behind every rhythm.
