The Last Dance: Konpa With LakayRo Closes Out the Year
LakayRo's final Konpa class of the year is here. Join us for one last evening of Haitian social dance, community, and celebration. Tickets available now.
Every season has a final class, and this year our Konpa series closes with intention. We invite you to join us for Konpa With LakayRo: The Last Dance — our final Konpa class of the year, and a celebration of everything the dance floor has held over the past twelve months.
What Konpa Means to Us
Konpa is the popular social dance of Haiti, born from the music of Nemours Jean-Baptiste in the 1950s and carried forward by generations of Haitian artists. It is a partner dance, a celebration dance, and a gathering dance — the kind of movement that brings people onto the floor together.
At LakayRo, we teach Konpa not only as a dance style but as a cultural practice. Students learn the timing, the lead-and-follow, the footwork, and the feel — alongside the history of where Konpa came from and why it matters to Haitian communities today.
Konpa is where culture and celebration meet. When the music starts, the room becomes a community.
What to Expect at The Last Dance
This final class of the year is designed for dancers of all levels, including beginners. Whether you have been with us all season or this is your first time stepping onto the floor, you are welcome.
The evening includes:
- A guided Konpa lesson — covering foundational technique, partnering, and musicality
- Open social dancing — time to practice, connect, and enjoy the music
- A community atmosphere — welcoming, judgment-free, and rooted in culture
No partner is required to attend. Come as you are.
Reserve Your Spot

Why We End the Year Together
A final class is more than a last session. It is a moment to look back at the progress, the friendships, and the community that formed on the dance floor over the year. It is also a moment to look forward — to what the next season will hold.
We end the year the way we started it: together, on the floor, with the music playing.
